Description

Approaches to performance reviews and appraisal for teachers and support staff are changing. Many schools, colleges and trusts have already shifted their appraisal practice away from annual reviews based on formal assessments and data-based evidence, towards a greater emphasis on continued professional learning and more frequent dialogue between staff and managers. This approach drives school improvement by supporting the building of capacity and enables staff to directly engage in and take control of their professional growth. This shift has seen benefits for individual well-being as well as supporting staff retention.

If you are thinking about how to shift your appraisal practice towards a more developmental approach, this Leading On webinar will outline the considerations for developing a new strategy.

Following publication of ASCL and BlueSky Education’s papers Changing approaches to performance management and appraisal: Part 1: Exploring the research and considerations for improving outcomes and Part 2: Policies, procedures and processes (due to be published in October), this Leading On session offers a guide to implementing a developmental appraisal practice in your school, college or trust.

This webinar will explore how to develop an appraisal strategy, taking into consideration the related policies, procedures and school processes as well as offering a model timeline for the transition.

Participants will:
• understand how to ensure professional development and professional growth is supporting the priorities of the organisation and the outcomes of young people
• identify how to encourage staff at all levels in your organisation to take control of their professional development path and enhance professional accountability
• understand what the transformation process involves and how long will it take, together with key policies, procedures and the impact on pay decisions.
