Description

This one day online conference will bring stakeholders and policymakers together to discuss the next steps for cultural education in England.

It comes as the Department for Education develops a new National Plan for Cultural Education, and with the appointment of the chair for its Expert Advisory Panel.

The conference will be an opportunity to consider the scope of the new National Plan, exploring how the sector and government might learn and incorporate the lessons from the Cultural Education Plan of 2013, and how to coordinate the new strategy with existing subject National Plans such as that for Music Education, published in 2022.

Delegates will discuss priorities, examining:
• implementation:
     ◦ the place of cultural education in the wider curriculum and the objectives for it as a whole
     ◦ the forms of culture to be included in the National Plan
• cultural education partnerships:
     ◦ strategies for cultural centres and institutions to collaborate with schools to support in-classroom delivery and provide opportunities for extra-curricular education and experiences
     ◦ collaborative structures for providing opportunities for children in disadvantaged groups and areas - supporting under-represented groups to fulfil their potential
• progression:
     ◦ developing the cultural education journey from primary education to employment
     ◦ what might be needed from government and the sector to develop effective post-16 cultural education pathways through to employment opportunities and careers in the cultural sector.
