Description

This conference will assess progress and remaining issues as stakeholders - in communities, local government and agencies involved in child protection - implement key measures in the Children and Social Work Act.

Delegates will examine the progress that safeguarding partners have made in setting up arrangements to work together and in joint targeted area inspections - looking at issues including practicalities, cost and the roles of schools and other organisations.

They will also discuss proposals requiring a wider range of practitioners - including in health and social care, education and the emergency services - to report child abuse or neglect and take action, with Government considering responses to its consultation.

Further sessions assess the prospects for the recently established Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Exploitation and the launch of Independent Child Trafficking Advocates, as well as further options for tackling child sexual exploitation backed by funding from the Home Office. The agenda also looks at the responsibilities of Internet Service Providers in keeping children safe from sexual abuse online, and ways in which professionals working with children can be trained to feel confident in identifying children at risk of online abuse.
