Description

Half of all lifetime mental health illness begins by the age of 14. Schools have a vital role to play in prevention, spotting early warning signs, and supporting good mental health and wellbeing for all children and young people.

This one day conference brings together primary schools, secondary schools and mental health experts to offer a range of practical approaches and showcase best practice from schools leading in this area.

Keynote sessions will provide:
• Update on progress and ambitions of the children’s mental health green paper
• Practical ideas and trusted resources for developing a provision and ethos that better promotes the mental health of every learner
• In-depth look at the Mental Health First Aid in Schools programme.

Seminars will cover:
• The evidence base of positive psychology and resilience, and how to build relationships and develop the attitudes, skills and experiences that promote good mental health
• Offering pupils time and space to talk to be true to themselves, and the challenges this brings
• The role of child development and neurodevelopmental difficulties in shaping provision
• How building resilience and emotional wellbeing within schools can improve learning outcomes
• Empowering young people to take control of their emotional health and wellbeing through mindfulness
• Working with parents through a whole-family approach to wellbeing
• Delivering mental health support to pupils from a team of professionals  
• Meeting the needs of individual children
• Age and stage-appropriate wellbeing provision in education.
