Description

This one day in-person conference is for secondary school teaching staff and will feature sessions aimed at those teaching at the chalkface as well as those leading teaching and learning in our schools.

From pedagogy, teaching and assessment insights to classroom tips and ideas - and from inclusive classrooms and mental health support to CPD, leadership and managing workload – this event will offer 16 sessions dedicated to secondary phase teaching and learning across three broad streams:
• Delivering teaching (for those working at the chalkface)
• Leading teaching (for those leading teaching and teachers in schools)
• Removing barriers to learning (for both pastoral and teaching staff).

There will also be sessions focused on how we can remove some of the common barriers that our students face to learning. Every workshop will offer practical examples, ideas and tips to help improve teaching and learning in your classroom or across your teaching team.

The programme includes the likes of Jon Tait, Bukky Yusuf, Kristian Still, Helen Webb, Jean Gross, Dr Robin Bevan, Dr Gohar Khan, Patrick Cozier, Sean Harris and more.

The day will open with a keynote presentation from SecEd’s most prolific author of all-time – Matt Bromley, who will be drawing on some of his back catalogue of more than 150 articles when he discusses 10 top tips for teachers to help plan, teach, and assess great learning.

Other sessions at the event will focus on themes including:
• EAL strategies for multilingual classrooms
• Developing a model for teaching, learning and behaviour
• SEND and inclusion in the mainstream classroom
• Making retrieval practice work in the classroom
• Professional development programmes
• How disadvantage impacts learning and what we can do about it
• Practical ideas for using growth mindset
• Managing workload
• Strategies to promote mental health in your classroom
• Tips and tricks for your assessment, marking & feedback
• Model, check, retrieve in the classroom
• Golden threads of teaching and learning
• Creating dialogic spaces in our classrooms
• Defining our pedagogy
• Leading and developing your teaching team.

This event is designed for anyone involved in the planning and delivery teaching and learning in schools including classroom teachers and support staff, subject leaders, heads of department, curriculum/teaching & learning leaders (middle and senior leadership). It will also hold relevant for Pupil Premium leads, SENCOs, and pastoral and safeguarding leads.
