Description

The statutory guidance for keeping children safe in education, published in September 2022, details how schools’ safeguarding policies and procedures ought to protect children. Safeguarding in schools encompasses a broad range of existing and emerging challenges to keeping children safe; tackling harassment and violence, responding to allegations of harm and supporting vulnerable students are just some of the key areas schools must consider. Through sharing best practice in creating safe school cultures and developing robust safeguarding policies, schools can work together to successfully protect all their pupils, including their most vulnerable children.

• Online grooming crimes have risen by more than 80% in four years, according to NSPCC (2022)
• 90% of girls interviewed by Ofsted said that sexist name calling and sending of explicit pictures of videos happened ‘a lot’ or ‘sometimes’ (2021)
• Childline delivered almost 20,000 counselling sessions in the year ending March 2019 where abuse was the primary concern.
