Description

Identifying and providing support for More and Most Able pupils is still a challenge many schools face, with high existing teaching workloads often preventing the development of cohesive support for many More Able students. As schools still play catch up from the Covid-19 pandemic, stretching the minds and potential of high attainers has often fallen behind as a priority for senior leadership teams. Through securing whole-school buy-in, improving teacher pedagogy and forming collaborative links with other schools and educational organisations, school leaders and teachers can provide the interventions and inspiration necessary to allow Most Able pupils to thrive.

• There were over 35,000 high learning potential children in England struggling with mental health issues in 2022, much of which was caused by inappropriate educational provision
• 10% of children with High Learning Potential face significant personal hurdles
• In 2019, 44% of schools needed change to their provision for ‘more able’ learners, with the vast majority requiring more challenge (60%+) and/or more progress (26%+).

(Potential Plus UK, 2022)
