Event Details
Description
This is a webinar for literacy and reading leaders across primary, secondary or trusts and follows on from ASCL’s June 2023 webinar on literacy.
It will focus on three areas:
• Literacy and reading: consider strategies to ensure more parents are on board, that they feel supported, know how they can support at home, and why they should support where they can.
• What to include in an effective whole school reading and literacy curriculum as pupils move from KS2 into KS3 and KS4, what good literacy looks like, and how schools can ensure parents are embedding literacy and reading at home.
• What level of literacy is required to access a KS3 curriculum and KS4 examinations, and how parents can be supported in understanding this.
There will be an opportunity for questions in the final panel discussion.
ASCL Primary and Data Specialist, Tiffnie Harris, will begin by looking at some of the challenges schools face when helping parents to support literacy and reading at home. Tiff will provide data to support this, alongside practical guide sheets and slides that can be used by literacy leaders.
ASCL Curriculum, Assessment and Inspection Specialist, Tom Middlehurst, will focus on literacy and reading curriculum planning, including what schools should have in place and how this might be effectively shared with parents to gain the most impact across the whole school.
