Countdown to Reservations End Date
Event Details
Description
In September 2023, the Department for Education published new statutory guidance for keeping children safe in education settings which set out clear standards for safeguarding children in schools. With more than 90% of teachers saying that safeguarding referrals have risen in 2023, according a report from NSPCC, it is now more important than ever that schools and staff are working to create a safe environment in which children can learn. Through sharing best practice, those working in educational settings can build upon their existing success and develop new strategies to improve reporting mechanisms, raising awareness of warning signs, and creating a culture of safeguarding in schools.
• 87% of teachers said they saw an increase in neglect referrals while 50% said they saw an increase in sexual abuse referrals, found a survey by NSPCC
• Almost 400 children were seriously abused or neglected in England in 2021, shows a 2022 report by the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Pane
• From 2021 to 2022, reports related to explicit imagery which had been created of children aged 7-10 increased by 129%, according to a 2023 report from the Internet Watch Foundation.
