This webinar will explore the findings of REUK’s research on the barriers to young refugees accessing education and the policy changes needed.

The steep rise in school absences after the pandemic has led to urgent efforts from the new Government, which has announced a new Children's Wellbeing Bill to address the issue and bring absent children back to school.

These efforts must include refugee and asylum-seeking children and teenagers, who arrive later into the school system ("late arrivals") and face additional challenges to accessing education. Refugee Education UK (REUK) sheds light upon this in their upcoming report, Education for Late Arrivals, which draws on the experiences from 400 individuals including practitioners from charities, education, local government, and young refugees themselves.

This webinar will be focused on the policy findings and recommendations from this research. Additional practitioner-focused events will be held in the autumn, but practitioners with an interest in policy are most welcome to attend!
