Description

The first iteration of the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) took place in 2021, with the aim of improving and benchmarking knowledge exchange activity between universities and the public, private and third sectors. Within the framework, universities are measured on seven key outcomes, with the overarching goal of driving research innovation – locally and globally.

The results of the second iteration of the Knowledge Exchange Framework were released in September 2022, following a review and updates to the methodological methods used in 2021. With knowledge exchange outcomes being measured annually, now is an excellent opportunity for universities to reflect and learn from the second iteration, and share best practice with peers in preparation for the next iteration.

• The Government has a target of reaching 2.4% of GDP spend on Research and Development by 2027
• UK universities received £4.9 billion from knowledge exchange activities in 2018-19 according to Universities UK (UUK)
• 136 higher education institutions have signed up to the KE Concordat, creating 560 priority actions for improved collaborative working, UUK report.
