Description

The decline in staff retention across schools and the long-lasting impact of Covid-19 on teachers’ workloads and wellbeing has made it an unavoidable issue for senior leadership teams (SLTs). In 2022, Education Support found that 59% of staff considered leaving in the past year due to mental health pressures, and 68% cited workload as the main reason for thinking about moving jobs. Creating supportive wellbeing cultures in schools, reducing workloads and delivering cost-effective wellbeing solutions are just some of the key challenges SLTs face. Through sharing best practice interventions and policies, schools can come together to tackle this growing issue and prevent burnout and poor mental health at work.

• 47% of staff always go to work when unwell
• 78% of all staff experienced mental health symptoms due to their work
• 47% of all staff feel their organisations do not support employees who have mental health problems well
• 75% of all staff are stressed.
