Description

The importance of arts education is undeniable. Arts Council England have reported that not only does arts education improve a child’s confidence and character but it’s also beneficial to their resilience and wellbeing. Additionally, to this, the implementation of arts education enriches the experience of studying for all pupils and has proven to positively impact an individuals’ employability and career prospects. Despite this, uptake in arts education among GCSE and A Level student is still in decline. The impact of the Covid-19 virus has exacerbated the problem, with numerous arts classes temporarily restricted or halted amid lockdowns. It’s now imperative to find ways of reengaging pupils in arts education and to create an inclusive arts curriculum for all.

• Between 2010 and 2020 there was a 30% decline in arts A Level entries, of which there was a 2% decline between 2019 and 2020
• An Arts Council England report stated that pupils from low-income families who take part in arts activities are 3 times more likely to get a degree
• According to the House of Lords Library, the creative industries sector grew by 6.9% from 2021 to 2022.
