Description

This one day seminar will examine the future for Applied General Qualifications (AGQs).

It will be an opportunity for stakeholders and policymakers to discuss key themes emerging from the recently-launched government consultation on the current framework of all existing vocational qualifications at 16-19, aimed at establishing which qualifications work best for learners.

Attendees will also look at the qualifications needed by sectors which don’t have a T-level route such as retail, sport and the performing arts.

The seminar also examines the current standards and quality of AGQ provision with Ofqual highlighting concern surrounding grade inflation in some ‘older style’ AGQs, with an increase in the number of students securing top grades but this not being matched by their previous attainment or higher education and employment outcomes.

Further sessions look at how to raise the quality of AGQs and improve learner engagement whilst also ensuring that they remain relevant and useful to those studying them.

The future role of AGQs and other post-16 qualifications in improving social mobility will also be discussed, as well as the possible implications that a reduction in the number of AGQs on offer to students may have on the opportunities available to disadvantaged learners.
