Event Details
Description
This online course will aim to familiarise teaching assistants (TAs) with some of the challenges that learners using EAL might face when learning English and learning through English at the same time. The course introduces practical, easy-to-use strategies for supporting learners using EAL to develop the language skills they need to access the curriculum and fulfil their potential.
The course is split over three online modules and is designed to work around the busy lives of those working in schools with tickets available for either primary or secondary practitioners. With three hours of online study over a four-week period, this course will enable delegates to work at a manageable pace with plenty of time to process course content and consider relevance to context. The course is designed to be highly interactive and collaborative, with opportunities to work with other course participants, course tutors and course material. Module Two consists of a live webinar with opportunities to ask questions and share best practice in real time.
The course modules are as follows:
• Module One: Pre-webinar online tasks to be completed at own pace over a seven-day period (time commitment: approximately 60 minutes)
• Module Two: Live interactive webinar with the course tutors (time commitment: 60 minutes):
◦ Primary: Wednesday 11 May 16:00-17:00
◦ Secondary: Thursday 12 May 16:00-17:00
• Module Three: Post webinar online tasks to be completed at own pace over a two-week period (time commitment: approximately 60 minutes).
A certificate will be awarded for successful completion of the course.
