The current Ofsted framework has put curriculum front and centre. Under this pressure, it is understandable that school leaders wish to evaluate the quality of their curriculum and introduce structures and processes, such as lesson observation, work scrutiny, and data monitoring, to enable them to do so. Do these activities work, however?

This online session will make the case that attempts to measure curriculum quality are unlikely to succeed, creating only an illusion of accuracy and precision but with detrimental side effects. The webinar will offer better ‘bets’ for curricular quality assurance, which are honest about what can be done, informed by a deep understanding of the curriculum, and motivated by a desire to learn more. It will also give examples from the speaker’s own context to exemplify how these actions might be put into practice in the complex, imperfect, everchanging context of a real school.

Participants will:
• understand why many attempts to quality assure the curriculum go wrong
• consider better ‘bets’ for curriculum quality assurance
• explore examples of what effective curriculum quality assurance might look like in practice.

There will also be the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with other attendees.
