Event Details
Description
In this webinar, we will examine the role of the EAL Co-ordinator in this changing climate and explore how those working in this position can work with staff members to meet the needs of learners who use EAL.
The role of the EAL Co-ordinator is pivotal. Almost one fifth of learners are identified as using English as an Additional Language and increasingly, schools previously unused to supporting learners who use EAL are welcoming new arrivals, and often in large numbers. Ensuring that provision is the best it can be will play a significant part in improving outcomes for this group.
This webinar will explore:
• Getting the start right: the induction programme for new arrivals
• The importance of assessment and target-setting
• Roles and responsibilities: integrating EAL throughout the school
• An inclusive pedagogy for learners who use EAL: academic, linguistic and social inclusion
• Late arrivals: supporting learners arriving in Key Stage 4.
