Description

This online session will support primary teachers to deepen their knowledge and confidence in teaching nonreligious worldviews as part of a balanced RE curriculum. Together we will explore the diversity of nonreligious ways of understanding the world, drawing on clear, age appropriate examples that reflect real lived experience.

The session introduces substantive content about nonreligious worldviews and shows how disciplinary approaches, philosophical, ethical, and social scientific can enrich pupils’ learning. Through practical case studies, including humanist perspectives and other nonreligious ways of making decisions, celebrating life events, and thinking about happiness and the good life, teachers will gain strategies they can use immediately in the classroom.

This course is part of a wider series exploring religious and nonreligious worldviews encountered in RE across the United Kingdom.

Participants will deepen their understanding of nonreligious worldviews and develop confidence in using disciplinary approaches – including philosophical, ethical, and social scientific perspectives – to actively engage primary pupils in learning about nonreligious ways of making sense of the world.

The course complements the RE Today resource Exploring Non Religious Worldviews. A copy can be purchased at a reduced rate when booking, if needed. Primary NATRE members may already have access to this publication and are welcome to book the course without the accompanying book.

This session is also well suited to ECTs, offering clear subject knowledge and practical strategies to support their developing confidence in teaching nonreligious worldviews effectively.
