Description

Across the country, violence reduction units (VRUs) are supporting schools and colleges with a wide variety of programmes, approaches and initiatives aimed at supporting young people to be successful in school and beyond. It is increasingly clear that stability and success during their education is a key protective factor in helping mitigate disadvantages that may otherwise lead to negative outcomes in later life.

VRUs aim to build capacity, create partnerships and share knowledge that can help schools reduce the impact of inequality. There are 20 units covering England, Wales and Scotland.

This online session will give practical examples of how schools and colleges can work with their local VRU to access knowledge and resources, make connections with organisations who can provide support, and develop their understanding of how to work more effectively with children who suffer social and economic inequality.

Participants will:
• understand what VRUs are and how they can help a school
• understand the impact of adverse childhood experiences and why mitigating this impact will help the child and school
• consider practical examples of initiatives, support and partnerships that the local VRU could help bring to a school.

There will also be the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with other attendees.
