Developing children’s communication skills has always been a high priority in EYFS. However recent research has shown that this is even more crucial than previously thought for children’s lifelong attainment, particularly for disadvantaged learners. The 2018 conference seeks to provide EYFS teachers with compelling ideas, research and the latest thinking about developing children’s all round language skills including speaking, listening and understanding and building a rich vocabulary. The conference will also focus on how to narrow the word gap for disadvantaged learners, currently a high DfE priority, and how to take on board the recommendations from Bold Beginnings whilst maintaining excellent child centred EYFS pedagogy.
