More than one fifth of homeless children have been forced to move schools multiple times as a result of being placed into temporary accommodation, according to research by Shelter.
While 47 per cent of school-aged children have been forced to move schools as a result of living in temporary accommodation, over a fifth of homeless children have changed school multiple times, the report finds.
Chief executive of the housing and homelessness charity, Polly Neate, said: “Living in temporary accommodation is hugely traumatic. Homeless families’ lives are being derailed as they’re shunted from one place to the next, often with little notice to pack up their lives and pull their kids out of school."
