Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is being investigated by parliament’s commissioner for standards over a potential breach of rules relating to the declaration of interests, weeks after concerns were raised over his wife’s shares in a childminder agency.
The commissioner’s website shows Sunak is being investigated in relation to paragraph six of the updated code of conduct for MPs, which states they “must always be open and frank in declaring any relevant interest in any proceeding of the house or its committees”.
Commissioner Daniel Greenberg opened the investigation last Thursday (13 April), the website shows.
It comes weeks after MPs raised concerns over shares held by Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty in a childminder agency which may benefit from a new government policy.
