Almost nine in 10 nurseries and pre-schools in England are opposed to Government plans to relax childcare rations, with just two per cent saying the change would allow them to lower fees for parents, a survey has found.
Nursery staff said the move would be “dangerous” and lead to a “mass walk-out” of overworked employees, as parents whose children died at nurseries also raised concerns.
The children and families minister Will Quince said to help parents with the cost of living the Government will consult on changing regulations so settings can operate with a ratio of one adult per five two-year olds, up from the current limit of four. The move would bring England in line with Scotland.
Mr Quince said the Government was focused on “improving flexibility and reducing the cost of childcare”.
