The Government has announced it is to invest nearly £400 million pounds into expanding early years and after-school provision.

The Department for Education said the funding will be rolled out to local authorities in England based on anticipated need and to plug existing gaps in childcare provision.

An additional £100m of capital funding will be used to support early years providers to increase existing provision to enable them to create more places to deliver the expanded government-funded childcare offer from 2024.

In addition, £289m will be allocated to councils to create more wraparound care to allow all primary school children to access provision between 8am and 6pm by 2026. The DfE has published a guide for local authorities on how to spend the money.
