A primary school teacher has admitted using artificial intelligence to mark pupils’ work and plan his lessons.

David Grant, a 27-year-old from Glasgow, said using the technology had stopped him “taking the job home” and had given him his life back.

Grant, who is contracted to work 35 hours a week, said that before he used the technology, including the language model chatbot ChatGPT, he was working up to 60 hours.

Despite the benefits, however, he does not think AI will replace in-person teachers, but is merely a “tool to assist” them.

Grant introduced AI for learning in his classroom earlier this year. “Marking books is the biggest thing that takes the most time,” he said.
