Children should have a “recommended daily allowance” of the arts to make up for all they missed during the pandemic, campaigners urged on Wednesday.

A child psychologist and a group of primary school teachers said children would benefit from spending 65 minutes a day taking part in art subjects, including 17 minutes on literature, 12 minutes on music and 11 minutes on drama.

The “five-a-day” rule, normally applied to fruit and vegetable consumption, could be used to ensure children get enough of the arts, they said.
