Lack of policy action risks widening the attainment gap and worsening the quality of education for all young children, educational charity the Sutton Trust has warned.
Current early years policies ‘risk widening the attainment gap and worsening the quality of education for all young children’, according to a new policy briefing published today (24 January) from the Sutton Trust.
Education and social mobility experts at the Trust warned of a ‘major deterioration’ in the education of disadvantaged young children. It said that the role of the early years sector is increasingly moving towards childcare at the expense of providing high-quality education, with learning gaps between the most and least well-off young children set to widen in the coming years.
The first of the Sutton Trust’s new series of policy briefings ahead of the upcoming election examines extensive evidence of the key issues in early education and childcare, alongside the policies of the main political parties.
