Making regular reference to research can transform our practice, helping us towards improving children’s learning outcomes. So, it’s encouraging that, since its launch, the Early Years Evidence Store has been viewed and utilised by thousands of early years educators.

We want to make it as easy as possible for practitioners to refer to the key messages from the Evidence Store, which is why we’ve produced a practical two-page summary guide distilling what the evidence says about supporting young children’s early communication and language.

These approaches consistently show benefits for young children’s learning, supporting crucial elements of their overall progress, such as their language skills and comprehension. They’re particularly crucial for children from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who often start with early years providers at an earlier stage in their development.

This downloadable summary document has been designed as an accessible reference tool for use alongside the Early Years Evidence Store. It could be printed out and shared with colleagues in your setting as a reminder of the key messages and the evidence underpinning Communication and Language approaches.
