Underfunding of private and independent nurseries by councils will be “detrimental” to the children in their care and the staff who work for them, it has been claimed.
Information released by councils shows that although the independent nursery sector provides almost a third of the country’s funded childcare places councils are only allocating a fifth of the relevant budget to pay for this.
