Children have been withdrawn from primary schools and local authority nurseries in the struggle to control an E. coli outbreak in Scotland.
The number of people infected in the East Lothian cluster of cases now exceeds 30. Parents said their children who had attended Meadowpark in Haddington, one of the nurseries closed as a precaution more than a week ago, were allowed to start primary one and attend school nurseries last week. However, on Friday evening letters issued by NHS Lothian called for the youngsters to isolate at home and submit samples for testing.
