More than one in four young parents are cutting working hours or leaving their jobs in response to nursery costs soaring to an average of £18,000 a year in London and £12,000 elsewhere.
Nurseries and childminders have been raising fees by up to £110 a month in the face of increases in employment, energy and other costs. In response, 21 per cent of parents have shortened their working days, while 7 per cent have left their jobs, according to a survey.
