A primary school head who was sacked after she failed to investigate claims that a teacher bullied children was accused of overlooking her behaviour due to “black solidarity” with her Nigerian colleague.
A black female teacher at Mayville Primary School in east London was accused of locking one pupil in a room, ordering another to stand on one leg and threatening to slap a third child.
An employment tribunal heard that staff had complained about the teacher’s alleged behaviour to Carnett Russell, the head teacher. However, Russell was said to have ignored the complaints, which included accusations about the way in which the teacher spoke to colleagues.
Russell was said to have “sided” with the accused woman and indicated that she intended to promote her.
