The Local Government Association (LGA) has called on the Department for Education to implement the recommendations of a government report identifying multiple safeguarding concerns relating to out-of-school settings.

The report contains several proposals to improve child safety in the settings including youth clubs, sports and leisure facilities, and tuition groups.

The LGA is urging DfE to introduce powers for councils to regulate out-of-school settings in order to improve safeguarding.

According to the LGA, this echoes long-standing calls for councils to be given greater oversight and enforcement powers for out-of-school provision.
