Though some have welcomed the government’s investment in family hubs across local authorities, many social care and early years leaders have criticised the move as a “missed opportunity” for long-term funding solutions.
This week, the government revealed which 75 local authorities will benefit from more than £300m in government funding over two years for the family hubs scheme, adding that 14 local authorities have been chosen as “trailblazers” and will be offered extra funding to lead the scheme's rollout.
Family hubs offer support to families from conception through to the age of 19, or up to 25 for children with special education needs and disabilities.
Though social care and early years leaders have welcomed the investment in family hubs, many have said criticised the move as a “belated action” and a “missed opportunity” for long-term investment.
