Gatsby is pleased to be working with the Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy (ITSS) project supporting universities to offer T-level industry placements and plan progression routes into skilled employment and apprenticeships.
ITSS have recruited a University T-level Support Manager to guide universities through the process of setting up industry placements – and plan how T-levels can form a career pipeline into the wide range of technician roles that are crucial to HEIs’ operation.
T-levels in a range of subjects – from Science and Digital to Building Services Engineering and Management & Administration – include a rich core to develop students’ knowledge and skills, together with the opportunity to develop in a specialist area, and a 45-day industry placement. The placement offers employers the opportunity to meet and work with young people who could be their future teams. Alongside this, current employees can benefit from the professional development opportunity to mentor placement students.
Working across the university community, the ITSS project will share good practice across institutions at different stages of engagement with industry placements, and provide direct support for universities to work with their local T-level providers, which will include colleges and school sixth-forms.
