Dons at a Cambridge college have been criticised after being served beef at a student-organised vegan dinner.
Fellows on Emmanuel College’s high table were served roast sirloin of beef with shallots and tarragon jus, while students celebrating the university-wide “green week” were enjoying spring rolls with spicy barbecue sauce.
One student told Varsity student newspaper that it was “one rule for them and another for us”, adding that “of all the meats, beef is the worst for the environment — it’s a joke”.
