A Chinese student at a Scottish university laundered tens of thousands of pounds for a crime lord.
Xiaotong Huang, 28, had been living in halls at Stirling University while transferring nearly £85,000 to Wai Ma, who travelled around Scotland in a Mercedes Benz handing bags of money to associates to clean, a court was told.
Xiaotong, who had been studying for a master’s degree in publishing, paid the cash into her bank accounts before transferring sums to other accounts.
She admitted keeping piles of money in a suitcase under her bed but claimed she had received the money from her Chinese fiancé, then living in Germany.
