A Catholic student organisation faces expulsion from campus after it urged members to picket an abortion clinic.

The University of Stirling Students’ Union has suspended the Catholic Society after it called on people to join a vigil at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Legislation is going through Holyrood that would create “buffer zones” outside clinics to prevent anti-abortion protesters from gathering outside. The Abortion Services Safe Access Zones (Scotland) Bill, proposed by Gillian Mackay, a Green MSP, is almost certain to pass after Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that the SNP would back it.
