Oxford professors remain overwhelmingly white and male despite the student population diversifying, new figures show.
The university has only a few black academics on permanent contracts, analysis suggests. Diversity among students regarding schooling, gender and racial profile has increased in recent years but white men are still the overwhelming majority on the academic staff.
About 80 per cent of its full professors are male whereas the average for British universities is 72 per cent, The Economist’s 1843 magazine reported.
Of the permanent academics who declared their ethnicity, 8.5 per cent identified as coming from an ethnic minority whereas the average for British universities is 20 per cent.
