In response to the insight brief published by the Office for Students (OfS) to better understand the impact increasing living costs are having on students, Dr Tim Bradshaw, Chief Executive of the Russell Group, said:
"This study adds to the growing evidence that students across the country are being hit by a Cost-of-Living crisis, with worrying numbers considering dropping out of their courses. The OfS makes clear that universities are doing what they can to step up support – from financial assistance to food and drink and warm spaces on campus – but many students are struggling to stay afloat and additional Government support is urgently needed.
"The lack of any specific measures in the Budget to support students was a missed opportunity and we continue to urge the Government to consider low cost options that would give students an immediate financial boost, such as uplifting maintenance loans in line with inflation."
