Edinburgh could become the latest university to have a ban placed on meat and animal products in some of its outlets, leading to claims that such a move would be “divisive and misguided”.
The 42,000 students will be able to vote this week on whether to serve only plant-based food in canteens and bars run by the students’ association.
Animal produce, including cheese, cow’s milk and honey, could be off the menu by 2027. The move would also see “climate footprint calculations” being made available.
A motion put to the student council by Emily Kemp, an activist, will be debated on Thursday. She said the ban would boost inclusivity and sustainability.
