Allegations of antisemitism in the National Union of Students are to be investigated by an independent inquiry.
Rebecca Tuck QC, a specialist in employment and discrimination law, has been appointed by the union to look at recent and historical allegations as well as its broader culture.
Last week The Times revealed that the government was severing all ties with the NUS after accusing it of suffering “antisemitic rot at the heart”.
Shaima Dallali, who is due to become president in July, apologised for tweeting in 2012: “Khaybar Khaybar O Jews . . . Muhammad’s army will return #Gaza.” It referred to a massacre of Jews in the year 628.
