A new event at Edinburgh University involving the feminist SNP MP Joanna Cherry must be protected from protesters because it is likely to attract more action by transgender activists, organisers have said.
The Edinburgh Academics for Academic Freedom group has been targeted by protesters after twice trying to show Adult Human Female, a film described as a critique of transgender ideology.
The most recent planned screening was called off when pickets blocked the entrances to the lecture theatre.
The group is now planning a discussion event, entitled Academic Freedom and the Law, for later this month and says it will “foreseeably be targeted by censorious individuals”. The event is billed as tackling the “increasingly censorious and polarised climate for public discussion”.
