The University of Dundee’s use of extended reality (technology that alters reality by adding digital elements to the physical environment - known as XR) has earned it a Jisc-sponsored accolade at the 2023 The Herald higher education (HE) awards.
Now in its eighth year, the competition celebrates the best of Scotland’s universities and colleges and highlights hard work and innovation across teaching and learning.
Jisc, as the UK’s digital and data body for tertiary education and research, annually sponsors a category for innovative use of technology.
The University of Dundee collaborated with Danish and Scottish police forces to develop new approaches to training for forensic practitioners using XR. The project not only helped develop new global partnerships with legal professionals and the public, but also led to developments in accessible and fit-for-purpose tools to improve justice outcomes. The university also celebrated success in categories for “enhancing student learning” and “outstanding contribution from a university student” and was named institution of the year as published in The Herald.
