Students have accused the University of Edinburgh of attempting to silence them after they derided a senior member of staff over his stance on an acrimonious campus dispute.
Students were sent a link to a video where Professor Colm Harmon, a vice-principal, spoke about the continuing marking and assessment boycott.
But the university then deleted critical comments before disabling the feature entirely after undergraduates went online to challenge his remarks.
