Students at universities and colleges in England are covered by the principles of consumer protection, and a range of law and guidance applies. The Office for Students works with other bodies to secure this protection for the benefit of students.
This brief looks at the concept of students as consumers and considers the scope of consumer protection law as it currently stands. It also examines how our regulation protects consumer rights, and what we have done and will do towards this end.
While the brief provides commentary on a range of regulatory and legal issues, it is not intended to provide legal advice, or a comprehensive statement or guide on consumer protection law or the OfS's regulatory requirements.
