Dr Chapman is Associate Professor in History Education, having joined IOE in 2013, and is currently the Academic Head of Learning and Teaching for IOE’s Centre for Doctoral Education. He is also Programme Leader for the Doctor in Education (EdD) and is himself an alumnus of IOE’s History in Education EdD.
His research interests lie in children's historical thinking, and teaching and learning about historical interpretations. He is also currently undertaking research exploring children's thinking about historical narratives. Arthur holds a number of editorships, including Editor in Chief of the History Education Research Journal.
He is actively connected with historical professional bodies through Fellowships at the Royal Historical Society and the Historical Association.
Dr Chapman takes over from Dr Lizzie Ruushton, who will soon assume a role at the University of Stirling, and will remain connected with IOE, especially through CPA’s Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education.
