The University of Edinburgh has reiterated a threat to cut staff pay, escalating a dispute with academics involved in a nationwide marking boycott.
The university said in a statement that participation in the boycott was “considered partial performance of contract, particularly at this time of year”.
It said: “Though we reserve the right to withhold up to 100 per cent of pay in these circumstances, we recognise that staff are continuing to undertake some duties, and as a result those participating in the boycott are receiving 50 per cent of their usual pay.”
Members of the University and College Union (UCU) at 144 institutions across the UK are involved in the boycott, and wage deductions have already been applied at some.
