Scottish universities are exposing students to “nakedly ideological” bias around gender and critical race theory, campaigners say as new figures reveal £3 million is spent each year on equality and diversity staff.
While seven of the country’s leading universities have invested heavily in inclusion, it has emerged that no funding has been allocated to freedom of expression. Figures show seven of the top universities spent an average of £400,000 between April 2022 and March 2023 on staff working on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
Dennis Hayes, founder of Academics for Academic Freedom, whose affiliate Alumni for Free Speech obtained the figures, criticised the lack of funding of “free thought” at universities.
