Edinburgh’s planning chief has signalled plans to counter the student accommodation building boom as city residents struggle to find affordable homes.
James Dalgliesh is the latest local politician across the UK to raise concerns about mushrooming applications for private accommodation for undergraduates.
Edinburgh city council last year declared it is facing a housing emergency. The capital had lost thousands of homes to short-term holiday let businesses, had rents rise faster than anywhere else in Scotland and said its homelessness services are overwhelmed.
But at the same time developers continue to focus on purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA).
